FOIA Response in 30 Minutes

Practical AI for legal and investigative professionals. Monthly discussions and demonstrations covering eDiscovery, investigations, document intelligence, and AI-assisted review. We explore techniques and tools from across the industry—including FreeEed, Claude, NotebookLM, Relativity, Reveal, and others—with a focus on solving real problems rather than selling software.

Session Format

0–5 min
The Gap — FOIA software exists now, but it is cloud, enterprise and priced by quote. It was not built for a county, a city, or a school district.
5–20 min
A Request, End to End — live: load the records (including the Google Vault → mbox path), search and cull to what is responsive, and produce the response PDFs. On your own machine, nothing in the cloud.
20–35 min
Redaction, Honestly — where exemption redaction (FERPA, PII, personnel) actually stands: what works today, what is being built, and what you would still mark up by hand. Plus “one request, one VM” — boot the appliance and nothing leaves the building.
35–45 min
Open Clinic — bring your hardest records request and we work through how to approach it.

November 20: This session is for the people who actually answer the requests — clerks, records officers, school district staff, city and county attorneys. One reply like "show me how to answer a request without Ctrl-F" is worth more than 50 sign-ups. Your input shapes the agenda.
